Casual Lifeguard or Instructor

Position Summary:  Reporting to the Shift Supervisor 1, this position is responsible for life guarding supervision to the public and providing a safe, clean, professional and friendly environment to ensure that pool patrons have a positive aquatic experience as well as providing aquatic programs and lessons to the public. 

Education and Experience:  Depending on the level of experience, all applicants must have their National Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate as well as First Aid/CPR Certificates. Water Safety Instructor course would be an asset, but is not a requirement. Candidates with excellent communication and positive interpersonal skills; time management and computer skills and knowledge of aquatics programming principles are encouraged to apply. 

Hours per Week: On an as needed basis.  Shifts vary between morning, days, evenings and weekends.

Pay Scale: $16.46 - $19.10

Volunteer - Drumheller Stampede and Agricultural Society

Temporary Full Time Hoodoo Parking Attendant (Two Positions)

The Town of Drumheller is seeking responsible and customer service focused individuals to help manage parking and offer tourist information at the HooDoo’s this summer. 

Position Summary: Responsible for greeting guests to the area.  Explain parking charges, collect fees from customers, and respond to customer inquiries.  Perform cash handling tasks, such as making change, balancing and recording cash receipts.  Maintain parking lot and roadway by ensuring a clean condition, free from litter, rocks, weeds, and debris. 

Hours per Week:  Shifts will be 10:00 am – 6:00 pm and 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Compensation: $16.39/ hour  - CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications: This position is funded through the Canada Summer Job Grant program, and therefore you must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment and have the following qualifications:

  • Grade 10 or equivalent
  • Minimum Class 5 Driver's License with clean driving record
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Able to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Cash handling experience
  • Knowledge of the Valley

Full Time Mechanic (Heavy Duty Journeyman Mechanic)

The Town of Drumheller is seeking an enthusiastic and industrious individual for the position of Full Time Mechanic.

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Chief Mechanic, this individual is responsible for providing skilled mechanical work directed towards the repair, maintenance and service of all types of Town owned equipment and vehicles.  Provide fabrication and welding work on minor equipment repair and projects.  Provide assistance to the Chief Mechanic as required. 

Hours per Week:  40 hours (Monday – Friday) May work some overtime/on-call

Pay Scale:  $34.25 per hour

Benefits: As per the Town’s HR policy and CUPE 135 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications:  Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.  Must possess a journeyman certificate in Heavy Duty Mechanics.  Preference given to those with an additional certification in Automotive Service.

Successful Candidate must be: 

  • Performs all duties with minimum supervision
  • Sound knowledge of vehicle maintenance and possess a good mechanical aptitude
  • Carry out light fabrication and welding
  • Computer knowledge and understanding of Micro Soft applications
  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license, with Air Brake endorsement
  • Will be required to provide a number of tools as per Town policy

Senior Shift Supervisor Position Temporary Full Time (18 Month Maternity Leave)

Drumheller Aquaplex

Position Summary:  This position is responsible for providing shift supervision, direction and technical guidance to aquatic staff. They will also provide advice to the Aquatic Supervisor regarding the operations of the Aquaplex, including input into the annual budget and capital plan for the Aquaplex.  Also responsible for both lifeguarding supervision and providing aquatic programs and lessons to the public as well as performs maintenance and janitorial duties throughout the Aquaplex.  Responsible for maintaining pool water quality as well as provide instructions in advanced courses including Aquatic Fitness classes.  

The ideal candidate combines a strong background in Aquatics programming and administration with a fun approach that focuses on the safety and enjoyment of all of our clients. 

Employment Category: Temporary Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40 hrs/week. Shift work includes nights and weekends – based on a compressed workweek, and conforming to the Town Policy and CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Pay Scale:  $25.60 - $29.75 per hour

Benefits:  As per the Town’s HR Policy and CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education and Experience:  Bondable, Completion of grade 12 or equivalent must possess Standard First Aid/Aquatic Emergency Care, National Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor or equivalent, Advanced Pool Operator certificate – Level 2 or equivalent, and Lifesaving Instructor.  Must be 18 years of age or older. Three to five (3-5) years of experience as a lifeguard and/or instructor, including experience in a supervisory role.

Asset:  Aquatic Fitness instructor training (CALA, AFLCA, Water Art, etc); Water Safety Instructor Training, National Lifeguard Instructor.

Must be able to provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check as well as a Vulnerability Check

DORVA MX, located above the scenic Drumheller region of the Red Deer River valley offers unsurpassed scenery, along with ample nearby amenities, and a friendly laid-back family atmosphere.
The Drumheller Off Road Vehicle Association (DORVA) is a 100% non-profit organization. They are volunteer run, with a board elected by their membership, responsible for operation, promotion, and maintenance of our facility in Drumheller, Alberta.

DORVA is looking for volunteers for Motocross Nationals to help run concession, food handling, liquor sales. This should be a great event with expectations of between 2,000 to 3,000 people.

Event days will be June 11 and 12.
