Casual Lifeguard or Instructor

Position Summary:  Reporting to the Shift Supervisor 1, this position is responsible for life guarding supervision to the public and providing a safe, clean, professional and friendly environment to ensure that pool patrons have a positive aquatic experience as well as providing aquatic programs and lessons to the public. 

Education and Experience:  Depending on the level of experience, all applicants must have their National Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate as well as First Aid/CPR Certificates. Water Safety Instructor course would be an asset, but is not a requirement. Candidates with excellent communication and positive interpersonal skills; time management and computer skills and knowledge of aquatics programming principles are encouraged to apply. 

Hours per Week: On an as needed basis.  Shifts vary between morning, days, evenings and weekends.

Pay Scale: $16.46 - $19.10

Senior Shift Supervisor Position Temporary Full Time (18 Month Maternity Leave)

Drumheller Aquaplex

Position Summary:  This position is responsible for providing shift supervision, direction and technical guidance to aquatic staff. They will also provide advice to the Aquatic Supervisor regarding the operations of the Aquaplex, including input into the annual budget and capital plan for the Aquaplex.  Also responsible for both lifeguarding supervision and providing aquatic programs and lessons to the public as well as performs maintenance and janitorial duties throughout the Aquaplex.  Responsible for maintaining pool water quality as well as provide instructions in advanced courses including Aquatic Fitness classes.  

The ideal candidate combines a strong background in Aquatics programming and administration with a fun approach that focuses on the safety and enjoyment of all of our clients. 

Employment Category: Temporary Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40 hrs/week. Shift work includes nights and weekends – based on a compressed workweek, and conforming to the Town Policy and CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Pay Scale:  $25.60 - $29.75 per hour

Education and Experience:  Bondable, Completion of grade 12 or equivalent must possess Standard First Aid/Aquatic Emergency Care, National Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor or equivalent, Advanced Pool Operator certificate – Level 2 or equivalent, and Lifesaving Instructor.  Must be 18 years of age or older. Three to five (3-5) years of experience as a lifeguard and/or instructor, including experience in a supervisory role.

Asset:  Aquatic Fitness instructor training (CALA, AFLCA, Water Art, etc); Water Safety Instructor Training, National Lifeguard Instructor.

Must be able to provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check as well as a Vulnerability Check

Casual Cashier/Waterslide Attendant

Position Summary:  Responsible for providing assistance to the public at the front counter.  Respond to inquiries and answer the telephone at the Aquaplex.  Responsible for cashiering services as well as supervision to the public in the waterslide area and perform maintenance and janitorial duties throughout the Aquaplex.

Education and Experience:  Must be bondable, perform all duties with a minimum of supervision and work effectively with variable work loads and produce timely and accurate documentation.  Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Valid Bronze Cross and Bronze Medallion certifications.  Standard First Aid award or Assistant Water Safety Instructor award an asset.

Volunteer - ESL Tutors

Full Time Temporary Communications Officer - Up to 18 Months (Parental Leave)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Officer works directly with the Chief Administrative Officer and is responsible for creating and maintaining positive community relations and public awareness on behalf of the municipality and the programs and services it delivers.

In addition, the Communication Officer will support departmental public participation opportunities, oversee internal and external communications objectives, and effectively implement corporate branding.  The Communications Officer is also responsible for supporting relationships with relevant stakeholders

In the event of an emergency, this position will be activated as a Public Information Officer under the Incident Command Structure (ICS) and will be responsible for emergency and crisis communications.

The Communications Officer supervises the Marketing and Social Media Coordinator.  They will delegate marketing and communications objectives to this individual, while overseeing all marketing and social media strategic initiatives. 

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE                          

University Degree or College Diploma in Communications or Public Relations or other applicable discipline.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.  One year of full-time related experience is equal to one year of education.  Five – Seven (5 – 7) years of experience in a strategic communication, marketing communications or public relations is an asset. Experience working within local government or similar organization preferred. Experience with ICS and crisis communications would be an asset.           

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Highly effective verbal and written communicator with a community-forward focus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate work with Mayor and Council, municipal employees and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively and innovatively as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within stringent timelines and other pressure situations without compromising the quality of work, diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Ability to prioritize, self-motivated, proactive, energetic, resourceful and goal-oriented.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and research skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing tools used for websites, traditional and non-traditional marketing channels, client management software and other relevant technology.
  • Ability to work flexible hours: overtime may be required.
  • Experience with ICS as a Public Information Officer or similar discipline as asset
  • IAP2 Foundations or similar discipline an asset
  • Other related duties.

Hours per week:  37.5 hours – Monday to Friday

Pay Scale:  $32.51 - $37.79 an hour in accordance with CUPE Local 4604 Collective Agreement
