Education and Experience:  Depending on the level of experience, all applicants must have their National Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate as well as First Aid/CPR Certificates. Senior Shift Supervisor Position Temporary Full Time (18 Month Maternity Leave)

Position Summary:  This position is responsible for providing shift supervision, direction and technical guidance to aquatic staff. They will also provide advice to the Aquatic Supervisor regarding the operations of the Aquaplex, including input into the annual budget and capital plan for the Aquaplex.  Also responsible for both lifeguarding supervision and providing aquatic programs and lessons to the public as well as performs maintenance and janitorial duties throughout the Aquaplex.  Responsible for maintaining pool water quality as well as provide instructions in advanced courses including Aquatic Fitness classes.  

The ideal candidate combines a strong background in Aquatics programming and administration with a fun approach that focuses on the safety and enjoyment of all of our clients. 

Employment Category: Temporary Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40 hrs/week. Shift work includes nights and weekends – based on a compressed workweek, and conforming to the Town Policy and CUPE 4604 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Pay Scale:  $25.60 - $29.75 per hour

Three to five (3-5) years of experience as a lifeguard and/or instructor, including experience in a supervisory role.

Asset:  Aquatic Fitness instructor training (CALA, AFLCA, Water Art, etc); Water Safety Instructor Training, National Lifeguard Instructor.

Greentree School Volunteers - Events and Programs

The Greentree School needs volunteers to help with a variety of events and programs throughout the school year.

The programs and events are as follows: 

  • Breakfast Program - Prepare and deliver food to classrooms at the start of the school day. Fundraising help is also appreciated. 
  • Hot Lunch Program - Sort and deliver food to classrooms at lunchtime. 
  • Fundraising - Sort fundraising items that come into the school, this is generally in the afternoon after school is out.
  • Library Services - Play librarian! Sort and restock books. Classify incoming books. Repair damaged books. 
  • Other Special Events - Set up and tear down of carnivals, setup and help pass out food for events (popcorn days, hot dog days etc.)

Without your help, these programs cannot run!

Income Tax Program Volunteer Position Description 

Position Title: Income Tax Program Volunteer 

Purpose: The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is for community members who meet criteria set out by the CRA (income threshold, simplicity of taxes, etc.). There is no cost to the community member to utilize this program. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Volunteers may be invited to participate in Tax Clinics where taxes are completed onsite for community members. 
  • To assist community members by answering any questions via telephone or email related to their income tax return. 
  • Scan documents and Print the Tax Summary for return to the community member. 
  • Ensure volunteer time is recorded properly. 
  • Sign and abide by Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement. 
  • Treat community members, other volunteers and staff with respect and dignity. 
  • Inform the Volunteer Coordinator in a timely manner of illness, vacations or extended periods of time away that may require a substitute volunteer. 
  • Report any concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible. 
  • Complete Orientation & Training (as applicable with Community Links & CRA). 

Time Requirements: 

  • 4-6 hours/month during March & April 
  • Up to 2 hours/month the rest of the year. 
  • Volunteers always have the right to refuse assignments.

POSITION: The Town is seeking an Operator 1 or Operator 2 to join their Team on a casual basis.

 

*An Operator-in-Training may be considered depending on experience and qualifications.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the daily maintenance, testing and operations of the Town’s Water and Waste Water Systems in accordance with Provincial and Federal legislation, codes, bylaws, policies and procedures.  Provide direction to Plant Operator in Training.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent. Certification in Level 1, 2 or 3 in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Waste Water Collection, and Waste Water Treatment.  Applicants with lower certification will be considered at a lower wage as per CUPE 135 Collective Agreement. 

 

Physically fit with the ability to withstand normal working conditions. Performs all duties with a minimum of supervision and works effectively with variable work loads. Strong verbal & written communication skills required. Hands-on application and use of computer systems and their applications. A valid Alberta Class 5 valid driver’s license.

 

Hours per Week: Casual Hours will vary dependant on need.  Typical hours fall Monday to Friday and may perform shift work on weekends.  Shift Work to conform to Town policy, the collective agreement and Provincial labour standards.

 

Pay Scale: $29.29 to $37.33 – Dependant on qualifications and experience.

Development Officer - Full time - Temporary Opportunity

The Town of Drumheller has a temporary opportunity for an experienced, adaptable energetic team member to lead our efforts in Municipal Development including the coordination of our safety codes program as we collaborate with local builders, developers and home owners in Drumheller and within the Palliser Municipal Services region.

Reporting to the CAO, the successful candidate will have a well-defined understanding of the development permitting process and is able to interpret and apply the Town of Drumheller’s Land Use Bylaw and all other legislation that informs the necessary steps and stages of the development process.

The Development Officer should have exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as experience managing a dedicated group of volunteers associated with the Municipal Planning Commission.  The position serves as the key contact with Palliser Municipal Services regarding the operations of a regional safety codes program (as designated by the Alberta Safety Codes Council) in addition to serving as the local liaison for the processing of subdivision applications in the Town of Drumheller.  

The position includes the day to day enforcement of compliance with the Land Use Bylaw and permit processing in addition to the review of development applications.

The Development Officer supervises Safety Codes Clerk(s).

 

Education, Training and Experience:

Minimum Grade 12 and successful completion of the Applied Land Use Planning (ALUP) Certification program.  Preference given to those who have a post secondary diploma or degree in urban planning, civil engineering or related discipline. 

Designation as a safety codes officer in one or more disciplines will be considered an asset. Other relevant experience will be considered.

Two to three years of progressive hands-on experience in a municipal environment.

Some formal supervisory experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of provincial legislation including local Bylaws, the Municipal Government Act and Regulations, and the Safety Codes Act.

The Town of Drumheller is seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to develop, promote and deliver a comprehensive community service program for the municipality. 

Leading a team in providing supports and services to the residents of Drumheller, and Starland County, the Manager advises on the efficient and effective delivery of programs and services that promote community development and provides strategic preventative and social support services based on identified community needs.  This role includes emergency social services leadership. A major focus will be on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for the community to achieve a greater quality of life for our citizens.

A solid understanding of community development, preventive social programming and social support services, volunteer management, social research, programming concepts and evaluation methods will be complimented by effective strategic planning, project and change management experience and organizational skills.

The ideal candidate will have relevant post secondary education and a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a related environment such as community development, social services or similar programs.  Knowledge of applicable legislation (including the FCSS Act and Regulation) as well as experience in a municipal setting would be an asset.

A minimum of 3 years leadership and team management experience including team development and performance management is essential. 

Proven ability to facilitate results through supporting and interfacing with volunteer organizations, other agencies, appointed boards, government officials, and technical staff will be key success indicators this role.

Position Summary: Working within a dynamic team, the Community Development Coordinator will provide leadership, advocacy and support to our community and social development initiatives.  Primary areas of focus will include community capacity building, enabling volunteerism, providing information and referral, conducting social research and analysis, and Welcoming & Inclusive Communities initiatives.  This position will also write and execute grant proposals that contribute to existing programs and address emerging needs and trends within the community.  Where applicable, the position is responsible for adhering to the Family and Community Support Services Act and Regulation.
