Position Summary:  Reporting to the Shift Supervisor 1, this position is responsible for life guarding supervision to the public and providing a safe, clean, professional and friendly environment to ensure that pool patrons have a positive aquatic experience as well as providing aquatic programs and lessons to the public. 

Education and Experience:  Depending on the level of experience, all applicants must have their National Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate as well as First Aid/CPR Certificates. Water Safety Instructor course would be an asset, but is not a requirement. Candidates with excellent communication and positive interpersonal skills; time management and computer skills and knowledge of aquatics programming principles are encouraged to apply.

Casual Cashier/Waterslide Attendant

Position Summary:  Responsible for providing assistance to the public at the front counter.  Respond to inquiries and answer the telephone at the Aquaplex.  Responsible for cashiering services as well as supervision to the public in the waterslide area and perform maintenance and janitorial duties throughout the Aquaplex.

Education and Experience:  Must be bondable, perform all duties with a minimum of supervision and work effectively with variable work loads and produce timely and accurate documentation.  Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Valid Bronze Cross and Bronze Medallion certifications.  Standard First Aid award or Assistant Water Safety Instructor award an asset.

Director of Infrastructure Services

The Municipality is the largest ‘town’ in Alberta by land size and spans over 107 square kilometres, this includes the communities of Drumheller, Midland, Bankview, Newcastle, North Drumheller, Nacmine, Wayne, East Coulee, Rosedale, and Cambria. The infrastructure services team manages a variety of services and facilities across this vast area, including but not limited to over 220 kilometres of roads and trails, 2 pools, a recreation centre, an arena and 3 other town buildings, several parks, 1 water and 2 wastewater treatment plants, underground utilities and supplies water to surrounding counties and communities.

The Town of Drumheller is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and team-orientated leader to fill the position of the Director of Infrastructure Services. As a key member of the Senior Management Team, reporting directly to the CAO, you will assume responsibility for developing and executing the strategic goals for infrastructure services, while ensuring compliance with corporate policy, relevant statutes, bylaws and resolutions. The Director supports a team of 7 direct reports within engineering and capital project management, GIS, water and wastewater, operations, facilities, procurement and administration. The Director attends and actively participates in council meetings every week and may support the organization as Acting CAO in their absence. The successful incumbent will be a strategic and critical thinker who is passionate about team leadership, continuous operational improvements, innovation and collaboration, both internally and externally.

Required Qualifications

  • A Civil Engineering Technology (CET) designation combined with 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in one or more areas of municipal operations including water, wastewater, roads, systems, and infrastructure design, construction, operations and maintenance
  • A professional engineering (P.Eng) degree would be an asset
  • Proven proficiency in mentoring, leading and developing diverse teams within a unionized environment
  • Additional Management/Leadership certification, including National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration I and II, would be an asset
  • Experienced in budget planning and management
  • Strong project management and change management skills
  • Highly proficient in public engagement, and excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally to the organization
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license
  • Familiarity with the Municipal Government Act and other applicable provincial statutes

Additional Information

The general hours of work are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, with additional hours required regularly in the evenings to attend council and board meetings.

Position Summary:

Responsible for maintenance of Town parks, downtown areas and designated sites.  Plants, prunes, cultivates, waters and fertilizes flower beds. Plays an integral role in the upkeep of the Town’s parks and other outdoor areas by carrying out horticultural activities and maintaining the Town’s gardens to create a healthy and vibrant landscape. Operates a variety of equipment and mowers.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be Bondable
  • General knowledge of propagation and growing techniques
  • Completion of a 2-year College Diploma in Horticulture or related discipline
  • Two years of horticulture experience performing duties
  • Interior and outdoor plant exterminator certification

Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

The Utilities department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, water distribution network, wastewater treatment plants, and sanitary collection system. There are also five (5) water reservoirs, two (2) water booster station and seven (7) sanitary lift stations. Our Team is focused on continuous operational improvements and is making changes to exceed industry standards!

Position Summary: Responsible for the daily maintenance, testing and operations of the Town’s Water and Waste Water Systems in accordance with Provincial and Federal legislation, codes, bylaws, policies and procedures. Provide direction to Plant Operator in Training.

Education and Experience: Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of Alberta Environment Operator 2 certifications in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Waste Water Collection, and Waste Water Treatment, Preference given to those with post secondary certificate in water and/or waste water systems. Two (2) years of related experience as a Plant Operator 1.

Physically fit with the ability to withstand normal working conditions. Performs all duties with a minimum of supervision and works effectively with variable work loads. Strong verbal & Written communication skills required. Hands-on application and use of computer systems and their applications. An Alberta Class 5 valid driver’s license.

Hours Per Week: Monday to Friday - 40 hours per shift cycle

Development Officer - Temporary Full Time

The Town of Drumheller has a temporary opportunity for an experienced, adaptable energetic team member to lead our efforts in Municipal Development including the coordination of our safety codes program as we collaborate with local builders, developers, and homeowners in Drumheller and within the Palliser Municipal Services region.

Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development, the successful candidate will have a well-defined understanding of the development permitting process and is able to interpret and apply the Town of Drumheller’s Land Use Bylaw and all other legislation that informs the necessary steps and stages of the development process.

The Development Officer should have exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as experience managing a dedicated group of volunteers associated with the Municipal Planning Commission. The position serves as the key contact with Palliser Municipal Services regarding the operations of a regional safety codes program (as designated by the Alberta Safety Codes Council) in addition to serving as the local liaison for the processing of subdivision applications in the Town of Drumheller.

The position includes the day to day enforcement of compliance with the Land Use Bylaw and a large volume of permit processing and administration of same, in addition to the review of development applications and oversees the work of safety codes.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Minimum Grade 12 and successful completion of the Applied Land Use Planning (ALUP) Certification program. Preference given to those who have a post secondary diploma or degree in urban planning, civil engineering or related discipline.
  • Designation as a safety codes officer in one or more disciplines will be considered an asset. Other relevant experience will be considered.
  • Two to three years of progressive hands-on experience in a municipal environment. Experience handling multiple priorities and associated documentation.
  • Some formal supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of provincial legislation including local Bylaws, the Municipal Government Act and Regulations, and the Safety Codes Act

Position Summary: This position involves manual labour using hands as well as common labourer’s tools (includes: shovels, power hammers, cement mixers, pumps, mowers, compaction equipment and light delivery trucks, etc.). Involves the use of light duty trucks and light motorized equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 16 years of age and have completed Grade 10. Preference given to those with a Grade 12 or equivalent.

Position Summary: Responsible for operational readiness and maintenance of the Town’s recreation and administrative facilities and buildings.
