Municipal Finance
The Town of Drumheller’s budget is an essential tool that guides how we deliver services and invest in our community. Each year, as required by Alberta’s Municipal Government Act (MGA), the Town approves two main budgets: the operating budget, which covers the day-to-day costs of programs and services like roads, recreation, protective services, and administration; and the capital budget, which funds major projects such as new infrastructure, facility upgrades, and equipment purchases.
In addition, the Town manages a utility operating budget to cover the ongoing costs of essential services, such as water and wastewater, and a utility capital budget to invest in the long-term maintenance and expansion of utility infrastructure. To ensure transparency and accountability, the Town’s finances are reviewed annually through an independent municipal audit, which confirms that public funds are managed responsibly and in compliance with applicable legislation.
