Council Approves 2024 Capital Budget of $8.66 Million

At the December 18, 2023, Regular Council Meeting, the proposed 2024 Capital Budget of $8.66 million was approved.  

As per section 245 of the Municipal Government Act, each Council must adopt a Capital Budget for each calendar year. The total approval for the 2024 year includes $4.13 million for water/wastewater projects funded by the utility rate model and $4.53 million for general capital projects funded by property taxes and Provincial grants.  

“The Town is continuing to make investments in replacing and improving infrastructure throughout the community, including the implementation of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan that was approved in 2023,” according to CAO Darryl Drohomerski. 

The approved 2024 Capital Budget comprises 33 capital projects across different service areas throughout the organization. These presented projects were identified as priorities to either deliver current levels of service or enhance current levels of operation funded by grants, utilities, taxes and municipal reserves. The Capital Budget does not include the Drumheller Resiliency and Flood Mitigation Program, which is managed separately. 

The investments will be made in the following service areas: 

Cemetery 

$0.03 million 

Administration & Enforcement 

$0.18 million 

Airport 

$0.54 million 

Fire Services 

$0.36 million 

Road Transportation 

$0.94 million 

Parks & Recreation 

$1.15 million 

Common Services 

$1.33 million 

Total 

$4.53 million
