Help Guide the Future of Downtown Drumheller - Applications are now open for the Downtown Streetscape Task Force
Posted on Jun. 5 2025
The Town of Drumheller is inviting residents and business owners to help shape the future of the Valley’s downtown by joining the Downtown Streetscape Task Force.
As part of the Downtown Area Revitalization Plan (DARP), the Town is advancing a key project under the 2025 Capital Program: the detailed design of Centre Street between Railway Avenue East and Riverside Drive East. This design will serve as the template for future downtown streetscape improvements, helping to reestablish downtown Drumheller as the cultural and economic heart of the Valley.
To ensure that the final design reflects community values and supports local business needs, Town Council is creating a Downtown Streetscape Task Force. This volunteer group will provide insight and feedback on essential design elements, including:
- Street furniture options
- Sidewalk widths and design details
- Tree density and placement
- Landscaping improvements
- Decorative streetlight options
“This is a chance for downtown business owners and community members to directly influence the look and feel of our downtown for generations to come,” says Jared Brounstein, Director of Infrastructure.
Mayor Heather Colberg highlights the roots of this transformative initiative:
“This vision started taking shape in 2020, when we asked the community to share their ideas and feedback about what they wanted to see downtown. That input helped us build a solid action plan, and when DARP was approved in 2021, we knew we were on the right track. It’s exciting to see all that early work turning into real progress now in 2025.”
At the May 17 Committee of the Whole meeting, where the Task Force was introduced for discussion, Council requested that the Task Force be expanded to include between eight and ten voting members to ensure a broad and diverse range of perspectives are represented.
Bylaw 22.25 outlines that the DARP Streetscape Task Force include:
- At least six (6) representatives from downtown business owners
- At least two (2) representatives from the general community
Applications are now open and will be accepted until June 30, 2025. If you are passionate about the future of Downtown Drumheller and want to play a role in revitalizing the downtown core, we encourage you to apply.
