Alberta Living Wage Network Announces Drumheller 2022 Living Wage

Posted on Nov. 16 2022

On November 14, 2022, the Alberta Living Wage Network, a collection of municipal governments and community organizations, released its 2022 living wage numbers for 15 towns and cities across the province. Drumheller’s 2022 living wage was revealed to be $21.20.

The living wage is based on what hourly wage is needed to cover basic expenses and allow an individual to participate in their community. This year, the 2022 living wage is based on three different family types: two parent and two children, one parent and one child and individual. Unlike the minimum wage, a living wage varies from community to community.

“Our membership and participation in the Alberta Living Wage Network is an important part of our poverty reduction commitment in Drumheller,” says April Harrison, Manager of the Community Development and Social Planning Department for the Town of Drumheller.

On November 10, 2022, the Town of Drumheller welcomed its first certified Living Wage Employer – Happy Dinos Playcare. Scott Gamble, the Town’s Ending Working Poverty Project Coordinator, congratulated the inaugural Living Wage Employer, stating, “We are excited for the growth of living wage work across the Valley, and we look forward to seeing more and more Living Wage Employers in the years to come.”
