Councillor Lacher announced that applications for the World’s Largest Dinosaur Legacy Fund are open until September 30, 2025, for not-for-profit or community groups which have a capital project that supports economic development in Drumheller. For more information, contact the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce.
Councillor Price reminded the public that Alberta Culture Days is September 1 – 30 each year. She invited everyone to come to the “Tastes of the World” event at the Badlands Community Facility Fieldhouse on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The event will feature multicultural food vendors, cultural entertainment, and it’s free to attend.
Councillor Kolafa reminded potential candidates for the 2025 Municipal Election that Nomination Day is next Monday, September 22, 2025, at 12:00 noon. If you’re thinking about running for Mayor or Council in the upcoming election on October 20, book an appointment with the Returning Officer by emailing legislativeservices@drumheller.ca or calling 403-823-1347.
Mayor Colberg welcomed Cheryl McNeil and Samantha Haddon who attended to observe the Committee of the Whole meeting in person. Both have submitted their nomination papers to run for Councillor in the 2025 Municipal Election in Drumheller. Mayor Colberg encouraged others interested in running to attend and observe the September 22 and October 5 Regular Council Meetings as well.
Mayor Colberg then proclaimed September 21 - 27, 2025, as National Royal Canadian Legion Week in Drumheller. This year marks the 99th anniversary of the Drumheller Legion Branch #22 and numerous events are taking place during the week to recognize and celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of Legion members. Mayor Colberg encouraged residents to attend the events and acknowledge the service of our Veterans and Legion members who work to keep their sacrifices and stories alive.
PROPOSED MUNICIPAL POLICING COMMITTEE BYLAW #35.25
The Director of Emergency & Protective Services presented proposed Municipal Policing Committee Bylaw #35.25 to the Committee of the Whole. As a result of recent legislation passed by the Government of Alberta, municipalities are required to establish civilian governance bodies to support local policing priorities. The Committee recommended that Administration present the proposed Bylaw #35.25 for first reading at the September 22, 2025, Regular Council Meeting, as presented, but requested clarification regarding the section of the Bylaw that pertains to whether or not the Mayor is a voting member.
CLOSED SESSION
The Committee held a closed session in accordance with the Access to Information Act, specifically exceptions to disclosure clauses 28 – Local public body confidences and 29 – Advice from officials, to discuss Services Level Review and CAO Report.
