Councillor Lacher informed the public of the Valley Bus Society’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Badlands Community Facility and advised they are seeking board members. Everyone is welcome!
On behalf of Council, Mayor Colberg declared May 12 – 18, 2025, as Nurse’s Week in Drumheller to acknowledge and celebrate the essential contributions of nurses within our community. She commended their professionalism, compassion, and dedicated support.
Mayor Colberg reminded residents of the upcoming International Chainsaw Carving event, scheduled to take place from Thursday, May 14, through the weekend. She also expressed appreciation to Travel Drumheller for their support of the event.
COUNCIL BOARDS AND COMMITTEES
The Committee of the Whole accepted as information minutes from the following boards and committees: the Valley Bus Society, the Drumheller & District Senior’s Foundation, the Drumheller Public Library Board, and the Municipal Planning Commission.
DELEGATION: TRAVEL DRUMHELLER
Julia Fielding from Travel Drumheller delivered a presentation to the Committee of the Whole highlighting Alberta tourism numbers, results from the 2024 Resident Sentiment Survey, 2025 operational activities, the Dino Trails Passport Program and Canada’s Badlands campaigns, and Destination Development 2025 activities. They also provided details of the Business Survey conducted in partnership with four other organizations.
AMENDMENT TO FCSS COMMITTEE BYLAW #34.24
In December 2024, Council adopted Bylaw #34.24 – Family and Community Services (FCSS) Bylaw, establishing a committee of Council responsible for approving and overseeing all program activities. The Committee of the Whole supported the FCSS Committee and Administration’s recommendation that the Bylaw be amended to allow for the inclusion of external members from local social service agencies. The proposed amended Bylaw is scheduled for consideration by Council in June 2025.
PROPOSED DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPE TASK FORCE BYLAW #22.25
The Committee of the Whole (COTW) reviewed Proposed Bylaw #22.25 – Downtown Streetscape Task Force Bylaw, which will create a committee responsible for establishing design standards and the overall aesthetics of the downtown streetscape. The COTW requested that Administration present proposed Bylaw #22.25 for consideration at a future Regular Council Meeting, incorporating recommended amendments.
WAYFINDING – NEXT STEPS
The Director of Infrastructure Services presented an update to the Committee of the Whole (COTW) regarding trail system wayfinding and directional signage in the Town as a follow up to the full ISL Engineering and Land Development Services Wayfinding Assessment Report presented at the COTW meeting on November 12, 2024.
CLOSED SESSION
The Committee of the Whole closed the meeting to the public to discuss Third Party Business and Local Public Body Confidences as per FOIP 16 – Disclosure harmful to business interests of a third party, FOIP 23 – Local public body confidences, and FOIP 24 – Advice from officials.
